Alriiiiiight queens. Now THIS was an episode. I keep saying this, but damn if this wasn’t the first old school Drag Race episode of the season. Let’s get into it!
The girls chat and throw shade in the workroom after Charlie’s elimination and blah blah blah because…WE FINALLY GET A MINI CHALLENGE! This is so exciting and so insane that we had to wait til episode 5 to get a mini challenge. And even worse is that they give us 2 minutes to watch it. I keep hearing this from everyone – and I totally agree – this season just seems very rushed. We get little to no time on runways and challenge-prep scenes and seemingly too much time on “workroom drama” and commercial breaks… I am not pleased VH1. *Coco Montrese voice* “Oh at all.”
Anyways, the mini challenge is a quick drag selfie competition and we also finally get some
eye candy Pit Crew! And my oh my those new additions are delectable! The selfies give us some comedy, but it all happens too quickly and we barely have time to judge for ourselves, when Ru announces Alexis as the winner! Finally this girl wins something!
Honorable mention goes to Valentina for her #ThugLife selfie. I love her more every week.
Then we hop right into rehearsals for Kardashian: The Musical! I was super geeked for this lip-sync musical extravaganza – they are always highlights of the season for me! This was definitely a fun one. Alexis’ prize for winning the mini challenge is a cruise(!) and the powerful position to place all the other girls into roles for the musical. She chose the roles wisely, yet Nina Bocrybaby whines about not getting her top choice. Deal with it girl. Anyways, my coworker and I did our best Nancy Drewing of the trailer for this episode to try and figure out who all the queens were playing and we came pretty close to getting them all right – though Lindsay, Britney and Paris threw us off…
We get to see the girls rehearse with their director and choreographer, Todrick Hall, and then we get right into the show. Alexis kills it as Kris and honestly every girl did a really great job with their parts – save for Cucu who didn’t know the damn words and Eureka who basically stood there and raised her arms in the air once or twice. But none of them can hold a candle to Shea Coulee. This girl won my heart, attention, respect and choice for winner of this season this week. She slayed the challenge.
She killed the runway.
And I think I actually died when Ru announces her as the winner and she tosses out the now iconic line:
She said that and I moved to her to #1 for this season. She. Is. Everything. To. Me. I am so sorry for not loving her as much as I do now in the first few episodes, but damn she did so well this week. I am so proud of her and can’t wait to see what she brings week after week now. And please go watch this weeks Untucked – she gives Nina a great pep talk that is probably one of the most epic positive speeches given to another girl during the competition. Ugh. I love her.
We get to the runway and the category is: Fur. Ok, sure. Mostly boring looks this week, but especially didn’t care for Farrah’s green flapper furry and Trinity’s “didn’t Kimora wear that 2 weeks ago?” look. The few standouts were Sasha’s Katya cosplay, Valentina’s Wilma Flintstone on date night and Shea’s banjee girl realness.
This challenge (and basically this entire episode) was Alexis Michelle’s to lose – and I was devastated to see that she did. As Kris, she stood out above the other girls – she was energetic, gorgeous and played the part perfectly. But damn – that may have been the most underwhelming reveal in herstory. That dress was so blech. I was super upset to see her have that hidden under that boring fur coat. She really should have pulled something flashier out of her closet (and not blamed the other girls for not telling her to do so like she did during Untucked…).
Ru picks Shea as the winner – duh – and has Cucu and
Courtney Violet Farrah Moan LSFLY against each other in yet another boring as all hell performance. When Ru asks for a minute (the entire bar was holding their breath) I was certain she was about to send them both home. And I honestly didn’t mind. I don’t think either of them have done much for me this season and I would have loved the drama.
But no! The face crack of the century! Ru calls Eureka forward and tells her that she
doesn’t want to look at her hop around in crutches anymore can’t in good conscience keep her around when she is so severely injured. She promises her an open invitation to Season 10 and has her sashay (well, hobble) away. I was shocked, but with Eureka gone, I kind of feel like things are just going to be much smoother – unless Nina or Aja step forward as the main villain? I don’t necessarily need her to come back for season 10, but I guess we will just have to wait til next year to see how Eureka does… She keeps Cucu and Farrah for another week and we are treated to a rather emotional group hug.
Next week is the Snatch Game and holy heck am I excited!! I can’t wait to see who the girls are going to (attempt) to impersonate and I really hope they all make smart #choices. Stay tuned!
